It is no secret that a poor education system can breed criminals. The "Smartest State Award" is out for the 2006-7 year. Factors such as funding, school attendance, and subject proficiency were used to evaluate the schooling provided. Factors like diversity awareness were not.
California ranked 47 out of 50. Vermont was number 1 for those keeping score.
Just for giggles I checked on states most heavily impacted by illegal immigration. Here is how they stacked up:
California 47
Arizona 50
New Mexico 43
Texas 25
